But do you need windshield repair?
How to Know if You Need Windshield Repair
Windshield repair is necessary if you have a chip or crack in your windshield that is in any way compromising your safety on the road.
When you drive on the motorway particularly, you will be travelling at very high speeds meaning that you’ll only have a split second to react to oncoming traffic. For this reason, it only takes a small blemish on your glass to cause an accident if it prevents you from seeing clearly or if it confuses you on what you’re seeing. Even a small chip will have distortion around it in most cases and this can prevent you from being properly connected to what’s happening ahead of you.
It’s also important to recognize that even small chips and cracks can get better over time. If you bring your car into us soon, then there’s a good chance we can provide windshield repair without having to completely replace the glass. On the other hand though, if you leave it too long it could progress to the point where a more thorough replacement is necessary.
A small chip and crack also means that any other stones or pebbles that hit the windshield are more likely to come through into the vehicle and it can increase the likelihood of more severe damage occurring in future.
For all these reasons then, you should get any chip or crack looked at if it is a) causing you any lack of visibility on the roads, or b) if it looks like there’s any chance of it progressing.
How Windshield Repair Works
Your windshield is a remarkably clever piece of design and is made of two identical sheets of glass pressed closely together. Between these sheets of glass is a thin layer of air and of adhesive laminate plastic. This means that any stone or pebble that hits your glass is unlikely to go all the way through – and in turn that means you can often repair your glass without having to completely repair it.
To do this, we will normally use a syringe in order to inject a resin into the chip or crack. This will then spread out to completely fill the hole and will harden to create a solid, transparent material that looks the same as the glass around it. This renders the chip or crack completely invisible and at the same time prevents it from spidering any further.
If the damage is too severe for windshield repair then don’t worry – we’re also experts at windshield replacement and if we need to we can completely replace your glass with a new window that will be just as good as the original. We’ve got you covered, so one way or another you can count on us to restore your auto glass to full health!
